Friday 19th February

I handed in my learning agreement for my Professional Project today, im really pleased, it sounds professional and gives me a good base to work from.

Thursday 18th February

Handed in my Dreamweaver ABC yesterday and had an illustrator came into Uni, to talk to us about becoming freelance, it was a really good talk and impressed with the presentation.

Today we had a women from Aquent come into Uni to talk about portfolio's, I thought this was a great help and showed me what not to do and what to do with my portfolio. Now I feel more confident about creating a good portfolio, I have already started making changes to mine, taking in to account the tips she gave us.

Tuesday 16th February

Had work this morning 6.30 till 11am. Surprised how awake i've been all day. Went into uni afterwards to do my pdf's for my portfolio, because we have a few professionals coming into uni to talk to use about our portfolios in the next few days.

Instead of doing the pdf's I ended up doing more work on the websites for the ABC because I asked Neil whether it would be best if the gallery was working with large images and he said it was best to. So I spent the rest of the day adding Lightbox to the gallery.

Monday 15th february

Well I woke up late. Which I would normal say is a bad thing, but this morning I wasn't to bothered as I have actually pulled out the courage to ask to do less hours at work, to do more uni work as we have just started the Professional Project. So I thought I'd get some rest this morning, so that i have more energy through the week.

Over the weekend i spent all of my time after work creating a couple of websites to get an ABC grade in Dreamweaver. I wasn't going to do it in the place as i didn't have the time to do it but as we got told last Friday we have to do it. Im actually surprised how quickly and easily i created these sites, I know there only basic designs just to show i can use the program but after only using Dreamweaver a little it nice to know I can use the program when I want to.

We started our sessions for the essay today. I am really worried about this because im not the best at this sort of thing. Its not the writing of the essay, its the coming up with your own discussion to talk about. Also i think its just going to slow me down in other projects.
Our task by next Monday is to come up with a title plus finding the first three articles and images we want to talk about.

Friday 12th February

I had the showing of our Professional Projects ideas this morning. we had to create a A4 landscape pdf with a brief description of what we are planning on doing, also may include a few images.

For my Professional Project I have decided to create a piece of packaging for an electronic devise or software. I have chosen to do this because I have always been interested in packaging design, also have enjoyed doing past packaging designs. I think the one thing that set it off is getting my new Macbook the other day because I was amazed by the packaging and it gave me a sense of satisfaction towards the product, knowing that they have really thought about everything.

After the presentation me and Steve cracked on with the lastminute.com brief. It was all going so well, we thought that we had come up with a really good idea but then we had a chat with Neil (lecture) about the design and realised that some of the audience may take affiance it.

Now looking back, whether anyone else thinks the same or not I am impressed with how much work and time i have put in to my uni work the past couple of weeks/months, with work as well. Also Steve has put in a lot of hours as well.

Thursday 11th February

Sent our final designs off to Alex after spending the whole day finalizing them, just waiting for feedback now.

Im going to spend tonight thinking about my Professional Project because we have a presentation of our idea for the project, and i haven't really got much to go on at the minute.

Wednesday 10th February

Just finished work and im really tired, can hardly stand.

Last night I went round Alex's and got the rest of the info, to put on the posters and made a few changes. Decided on what he wants the final designs to look like and after I went home and did a little bit of work on it.

Spoke to Steve on the phone last night to tell him what is going on. Will have to wait till tomorrow to do more work on it though as i've been at work all day and it is the fund raiser for our course's final show tonight.

Monday 8th February

Went into Uni today after work to do some more work on the D&ad brief (lastminute.com) with Steve. Also while I was there i gave Alex a call to see what is happening with the designs we sent him last week, because i have been emailing him through email and facebook and theirs been no answer.

During the phone call he told me that he wants us to make a few little changes to the the designs, change the background colour on the Room Six got talent and add the small print which I need to get off him. Oh and he wants to find out some print quotes for him. After he told me all this I said to him the easiest thing to do, is for me to meet up with him and then we can make all the changes then.

After phoning Steve as well, the plan was that I meet up with Alex after work tomorrow and while im at work Steve will ring up different companies to get print quotes.

Friday 5th February

Cant remember if I told you this but Me and Steve have switched D&ad briefs because we thought that we would get more out the Lastminute.com brief. It was all going well till last night when we were around a friends house when we were reading the old D&ad books when we saw that same has done the same idea before. I suppose that its good that we saw it before we got to far, and also that we are thinking along the right lines.

Here is the design which had the same idea as us but better executed.

Thursday 4th February

This Morning after getting briefed on our new project, Professional Project. Which im a little worried about because I haven't got any idea what i want to do yet. Anyway after getting briefed i showed Steve the design I did last night for Room Six got Talent and he really liked it which was pleasing because at least you know that you haven't just wasted a few hours.

Then we went up stairs at Uni and just changed a few things around on the design and then sent both designs off to Alex.

We also did a bit of work on the D&ad brief, as we changed briefs not long ago and we need to get it sorted. We have come up with a good idea, which involves images of entrances to different locations pasted on a wall. Have come up with a few initial ideas.

Wednesday 3rd February

Steve came round mine today to work on the Room Six brief. Alex sent us another email concerning the developed design we sent him yesterday. The email said that he spoke to the owner and she doesn't want the background to be white. So me and Steve decided to split up and I started work on the Room Six got Talent poster while he made these changes to the Open Mic Night poster. Steve had to leave early to go to work but we had finished the changes to the Open Mic Night design before he left.

Then after he left I carried on with the Room Six got talent poster and this is what I have come up with, and will be showing Steve when I go into Uni tomorrow.

Tuesday 2nd February

Today we got emails back from both Alex at Room Six and from the MADD group.

Firstly, Alex really likes the design we have done but after talking to his boss, they want to make a few changes to the design. They said that they want the purple to be a lime green colour plus they want us to put the holes back in the type face, but seeing as this is a typeface from da fonts there is slit problem being able to change the type. But we have sent him back this design, changing the colour and making a few other adjustments and also asking to keep the font.

Lastly, Alycia from MADD sent us an email today after waiting a while since sending them our lodo designs, saying that she has been ill so there hasn't been much contact with her team but they hope to be meeting up soon and will give us some feedback then.

Monday 1st February

Oh my God, I bought a Macbook today. Im really excited but also feeling that a little worried that I spent a lot of money on something I don't really need as I already have a laptop.

Anyway back to the real world

Me and Steve went to Room Six last night to meet up with Alex to talk about the brief and see what sort of people go there, also the deadlines e.t.c. I am really glad that we meet up with him because we got a lot more out of it. We got all the information we need to create 2 posters to advertise an open mic night and then a Room Six got talent night.
The best thing that happened while we were there was, we got some extra work. He also wants us to do some flyers, a slide show to go in the club and a poster to go out the front of the club to advertise the up-coming events.

Since then I have been at work from 6.30 till 12.30 this morning, so didn't get into Uni till 2 to meet Steve. Where we didn't start working because I got a bit distracted buying my Macbook but afterwards we worked till quite late creating the Open Mic Night poster for Alex.

Me and Steve thought that this poster would be a good starting point and inspiration for our poster.

and here is what we have come up with.

I am really liking the design that we have come up with, lets just hope that Alex and his boss (owner of Room Six) likes it.
